This is (approximately) a 1:100 scale model of a AAV-P7/A1 RAM/RS with EAAK armor.  I spent almost 10 months working this model (on and off) in Sketchup and printing prototypes.  I lost count of how many of these I printed until I was happy with it, but it's over 25.

Working around AAV's and having a 3d printer, I really wanted a good representative model I could have for my desk or wherever.  The models I've found online of AAV's were either highly detailed that couldn't print, or models that could print but had poor (or wrong) details.  I was looking for something in the middle, so I used it as an opportunity to learn Sketchup and do it myself.

Notes:

No supports are required for the tracks the way they are set up.  The turret and the body will need some supports.

Post-Printing

The tracks are separate from the body so they can print face up to get more consistent results.  Also, if someone just wanted to do a quick spray paint job, it's easier if the tracks are off the vehicle.

For glue, I generally use Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control.

The final drive (sprocket) side of the track goes towards the front of the vehicle.  For the turret, I've found that sometimes after it's painted, it's snug enough to stay on without having to be glued.

How I Designed This

This model was designed to have as much detail as I could get that would actually show up at that scale.  Every prototype print I would learn what looks good on a computer doesn't necessarily show up when you print it.  Conversely, I found out that sometimes features had to be exaggerated on the screen to get them to show up right in the print.
