The helmet from Gjermundbu Farm is the best-preserved Viking helmet in the world. It was found in a well-furnished man’s grave that also contained a chain-mail shirt, a sword, two spears, two axes, a shield, riding gear, gaming pieces and equipment for making food. The man who was buried had belonged to an elite group of equestrian warriors. The helmet was deliberately destroyed in connection with the funeral – it was pierced with the spears that lay in the grave – one stab from each.

I decided to make it because I was asked to print a viking helmet. The ones I found were often with horns. And since this is against what I was told at school many, many years ago, I investigated further.
The Viking Horned Helmet is a myth. Not based on descriptions in writing or pictures from the viking age.
The closest we get are the Berserkers. Fierce warriors, but not vikings.

Anyway. I hope you like the model.

UPDATE. Added a display stand

How I Designed This

The helmet is designed in Blender 2.82 based on the enclosed photo.
And since I thought it would look good, I included some dents and a cut mark from an axe, as well as some cuts and abrasions from use and fights.

Two parts to the helmet because it would make it easier to print and then glue together.

I'm two thirds into printing the cap at 50% size. Still 3 hours to go.
In .15 layer height I think it looks great. The dents show up very nicely.
