After making my own sword, my mother asked me to design one for her. She wanted a fantasy sword though, so it's not really designed much like the first.
This is a double bladed sword which can break apart into two single bladed swords.
I also used the opportunity to strengthen the sword by including room for wooden dowels. Specifically, Dowels that are 3mm in diameter and 300mm long. and even then, you have to sand down the ends a bit.
Also of note, the dowels are a VERY tight fit. To the point that I ended up having to use the rubber end of a screwdriver to hammer the thing into place.
But in the end the thing ended up being VERY durable.
I also made it so that at the end of the hilt, I've included space for a door catcher. Specifically, Amerock 0.5 in. H x 1.1 in. W x 1.4 in. D Zinc Steel Roller Catch

This is with appropriately small and short machine screws (3mm across)
I ended up having to hold the nut in place with tweezers while I screwed the screw into place.
After that, just put tape over the holes and then paint over that..
Also, all parts were designed using milometers.
NOTE: If it's needed, I can also design a part to replace the central connection piece. That way NO metal would be used. You wouldn't be able to break it into two swords, but you'd be able to take it to a convention (the rules seem to differ per convention, so the metal bits in the end may be ok for some.)
