This is the third in a series I was calling Robot-a-Week.

Let's face it.  Robot-a-Week is never going to work out.  Since there seems to be a pattern for their names, I will call them the AlphaBots.  Clever?

Robot D

A spider-like robot.

Features

  • Five legs.  Who has time to print 8 legs?

  • The body has three 6mm octagonal holes on top.  Use them to mount various accessories.  I made a big gun.  Create your own.

  • Leg joints use a locking wheel to engage the sprockets and lock them into place.

  • The head is mounted underneath using the octagonal hole in the center.

  • Big gun.  That's right.  You don't want the gun?  Don't print the gun.

AlphaBots (formerly Robot-a-Week)

Be sure to watch for the next robot in this series.  My Fusion 360 skills are improving and the robots are getting more complex.
As always, please leave any questions in the Comments.  I'll do my best to answer them.
Also be sure to show off any robots you make from this series.  I would love to see them.

Hopefully we can create a great robot army!

Notes:

Warning!  This is a rather advanced print!

Don't expect to just slap this onto an SD card and come back to your printer 12 hours later.  You have been warned.

Be careful with the feet.  I have included a scaffold that lets you print them upright using only a 5mm brim for support.

The body, leg parts and some of the gun parts will not require support.

The locking pins can be hard to turn.  The joint covers can be removed to make it easier.

Post-Printing

Glue the hip octagonal pins into the proper slots on the main body.  The hips should ride about the same distance from the bottom of the main body.

Glue the foot to the ankle sprocket.  There are two curves on the ankle mount.  A shallow curve and a deep curve.  The deep curve is the "down".

DO NOT GLUE the joint covers.  You will want to be able to take them off from time to time.
