I modeled this COD Ray Gun to be lit. I made the internal hollow to allow the passage of wires.
I used an over-head transparency painted clear blue for the visible part of the plasma chamber. The side gauge translucent parts were cut from a 1gal milk jug. The sound effects and some lights were from a $3 fake light saber I found at Target. I used two separate circuits for the lighting and sound. The switch on the side turns on the main lighting (blue, red, green and yellow). the trigger is a momentary switch which is linked to 2 AA batteries housed in the side gauge parts. This area also has the speaker and the sound board from the fake light saber. I also had to file down the hinge so that it would properly open and close.
I just updated the grip for the ray gun. I added the atomic symbol to the top. (I was mad I forgot it when I made mine.) I also made the battery compartment in the handle extrude all the way through. (I had to Dremel this out to fit a 9v battery when I made mine.)
On a side not I didn't bother making the sight as this would probably just snap if it were 3d printed. I was thinking one could just use the wand from a bottle of children's bubbles.
